JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Vice President of Risk Management/Insurance Management will oversee all aspects of insurance operations, including risk management, claims management, and policy development. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Risk Management will lead initiatives to improve insurance-related processes, manage contract negotiations, and mitigate risks to protect the company’s financial and operational health. This role will require close collaboration with internal departments, external insurers and other stakeholders to drive strategic outcomes.
FUNCTIONAL EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Insurance Program Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive insurance strategies, policies, and programs that support organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Manage relationships with insurers, including negotiating rates, terms, and coverage to optimize cost-effectiveness coverage tailored to healthcare operations,
- Oversee the claims process, ensuring timely resolution and effective collaboration with insurers and legal counsel.
- Partner with brokers and carriers to optimize insurance solutions and address emerging risks.
Claims Management:
- Oversee the claims management process, ensuring timely and efficient resolution of claims and managing complex or high-value cases directly.
- Analyze claims data to identify trends and recommend improvements to reduce claims frequency and severity.
- Provide proactive and detailed updates to senior leadership on risk exposure, claims performance and insurance outcomes.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate insurance-related risks across the organization, working closely with the rest of the organization to ensure robust processes and controls.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to adapt risk management strategies and maintain compliance.
- Support business continuity teams and plans to minimize disruption from unexpected events.
Leadership & Development:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of insurance and risk management professionals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration across teams and departments.
- Collaborate with IT, clinical, legal, and operational teams to integrate risk management into all organizational practices.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance Management, Risk Management, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree (MBA, MHA) preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in insurance and/or risk management, preferably in the healthcare or hospital sector, with a proven track record in strategic leadership and management of corporate insurance portfolios.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of healthcare insurance operations, claims management, and risk management.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with a focus on building effective teams and driving results.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and financial management skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret and stay current with healthcare regulations and insurance strategies.
