Job Summary
Reporting to the Group Chief Human Resources Officer, the Manager, Human Resources is responsible for managing the day-to-day processes of the Human Resource Department, providing services to Detroit Medical Center (DMC) market along with DMC University Lab group. The Manager provides strategic support and HR services in the areas of organizational design and development, change management, recruitment, training, employee relations and labor relations. The Manager drives projects and large-scale initiatives in support of the business unit(s) and/or the HR team across the system.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Developing strategies, managing operations, responding to emergencies, and mediating conflicts
- In conjunction with department leaders, develops and implements an action plan to achieve overall HR Strategy in department/division to drive organizational/system-wide business results, linked to business strategy and focused on a high-performance culture, to include workforce planning and development, diversity and inclusion, engagement, leadership development, continuity and talent review, onboarding, orientation, retention, change management, and culture.
- Develop change management plans with leaders, as needed. Works with leaders and teams to create a culture of ownership, diversity, respect, equity, and inclusion.
- Develops and evaluates overall trends/themes across departments/divisions to understand and address root causes.
- Manage complex employee relations cases that may include management, bargaining units, administrative and professional staff
- Creates new and updates HR policies and practices as directed.
- Advises managers to facilitate problem solving, prepare job descriptions and maintain high customer satisfaction.
- Provides subject matter expertise, market knowledge, and knowledge of the operations of business partners.
- Participates in recruitment-related events, partnerships, and strategies as needed.
- Consults with Employee & Labor Relations, General Counsel and other functional departments as needed to successfully investigate and manage employee relations issues.
- Reviews ADA accommodation requests and conducts discussions with employees making requests.
- Demonstrates flexibility in applying different approaches to changing work demands.
- Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of customer organizations.
- Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of DMC.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related discipline.
- Five to seven years of progressive work experience in Human Resources and demonstrated knowledge in all areas of Human Resources including working with senior leadership and project management.
- Must have demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams products, including intermediate level knowledge of Excel, to include creation and use of picot tables and charts for interpretation and presentation of data.
Preferred:
- Master's degree preferred in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
- At least one year experience as a Manager of Human Resources.
- Healthcare industry experience, preferably in acute care hospital settings.
- Experience in Labor Relations, to include collective bargaining contract negotiations and application.
