Position Summary:

Strategic Operations Director is responsible for identifying, assessing, and implementing operational and business opportunities across all DMC hospitals. The role will focus on improving operational efficiencies, optimizing hospital throughput, and coordinating cross-departmental efforts to drive successful outcomes in alignment with organizational goals. The Director will work closely with hospital executive leadership, overseeing the execution of special projects and strategic initiatives as directed by the Market Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assess hospital operations management, department throughput, and efficiency to implement operational best practices as directed by the Market Chief of Staff.
  • Diagnose hospital and department-level operational challenges, leading teams to navigate and resolve performance obstacles.
  • Partner with hospital leadership to develop and implement industry best practices for staff recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinate activities between assigned departments and other hospital functions, ensuring collaboration and effective communication.
  • Analyze financial and operational KPI reporting data to monitor departmental budgets, revenue streams, and overall financial performance, ensuring hospital and respective units are maximized.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize hospital throughput by collaborating across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Work with hospital leadership to identify and implement strategies aimed at improving patient satisfaction, experience, and care quality across all departments. Assess team member training needs, develop, and implement training programs to enhance staff performance.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure that all hospital operations comply with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices in patient safety and care delivery.
  • Lead workflow redesign initiatives, employing change management best practices to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Address and follow through with patient/family feedback and complaints including implementation and ongoing evaluation of appropriate process improvements.
  • Evaluate deployed hospital program implementation tactics and adoption rates. In parallel, identify processes to further hardwire change management.
  • Conduct overhead expense analysis and identify areas for cost synergies.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in hospital operations management
  • Previous demonstrated project management experience preferred

  • Strong ability to cultivate relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including hospital leadership, medical staff, and external/internal partners.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to drive operational success.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex operational issues, including identifying drivers of service line inefficiencies and losses.
  • In-depth understanding of business development, physician recruitment strategies, and creating competitive advantages in healthcare operations.
  • Experience with staff training, development, and change management.
  • Expertise in workflow analysis, overhead expense management, and practice optimization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and trust with peers and senior leadership.
  • Analytical ability to serve in an advisory/consultative role in determining and/or developing strategies, policies, processes, protocols and methods, frequently in the absence of guidelines or technical assistance, and to evaluate and direct complex systems that foster innovative approaches to procedures/processes.
  • Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner.
  • Time management and prioritization skills sufficient to manage multiple and possibly competing activities simultaneously.
  • Leadership skills including demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability, comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and counseling skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support.
  • Business writing skills sufficient to develop project documentation and internal/external communications regarding various aspects of assigned project(s).
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft software (word, excel, PowerPoint).
