Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Sterile Processing Coordinator to serve lead worker to certified sterile processing technicians to prepare and track all sterilization of equipment and instruments in an accurate and timely manner. Assists sterile processing techs in training to adhere to AAMI, AORN standards. Ensures operating room case carts, sterile trays and supplies for the operating room as well as the rest of the hospital as needed. Updates count sheets for every instrument tray. Tracks IUS and sterilization logs and decreases IUS rates. Responsible for creating cost-effective methods within the department and working with the inventory control coordinator. Serves as lead worker to students in the sterile processing area. Responsible for maintaining and reporting monthly sterilization data to the Nursing Director of Surgery as well as any added responsibilities as deemed necessary.

- Oversees the decontamination/sterilization of instruments and equipment.
- Ensures specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use.
- Performs quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly. Inspects equipment, instruments and packaging for cleanliness, defects, and/or malfunctions.
- Oversees documentation and labeling of sterilization cycles/packages.
- Demonstrates use of appropriate attire and monitors attire of staff in the OR environment.
- Follows and teaches AORN/AAMI/JCAHO guidelines for sterilization processes.
- Serves as the lead worker of all staff carrying out these processes.
- Carries out additional duties or tasks as assigned by department leadership.
Success Factors:
- Required: High School diploma or GED. Completion of a formal Sterile Processing Technician course with field training or 1 year of experience as Sterile Processing Technician or Operating Technician.
- Required: 2 years experience in sterile processing
- Required: Must be certified within first 3 months of hire through internationally recognized organizations such as IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) or Certification Board for Central Sterile Processing.
- BLS from AHA. ARC accepted upon initial hire. Must obtain AHA BLS within first 30 days of employment and available onsite at no cost.
- Preferred: Current certification with IAHCSMM or CBSPD preferred
